PVT Large Low Speed Wind Tunnel

Through a unique cooperation with Volvo Car Corporation, STARCS can offer testing in VCC's large subsonic wind tunnel, PVT. Together with STARCS' own mid-size, low speed wind tunnel LT1 and the smaller LT5 it forms a strong offer covering almost any need for low speed aerodynamic testing: Whereas LT1 can offer very cost efficient multipurpose testing, sufficient for most cases, PVT answers to specific requirements like a larger cross section and advanced ground simulation. With STARCS' long experience from designing custom setups for all kinds of wind tunnel tests, PVT becomes an outstanding tool for all kinds of subsonic testing. With a cross section of 27 m2, a maximum wind speed of 70 m/s and state-of-the-art boundary layer control the PVT wind tunnel is one of the most advanced wind tunnels of its kind in the world. Possible testing
Both aero- and thermodynamic testing is possible in the PVT wind tunnel. Capabilities like the solar radiation system, the humidity control and the dynamometer offer a wide variety of possible testing. The large size test section, especially the relatively long test section, makes PVT potentially suitable for most subsonic testing cases. However, one important key to successful testing is a proper setup of the test object. This requires a lot of experience from many different kinds testing. STARCS has a long tradition of designing specialized test rigs optimized for achieving the optimum results in relation to the test objective, test object and wind tunnel at hand.

The PVT wind tunnel is most likely one of the most advanced large slotted wall wind tunnels in the world. The wind tunnel was recently heavily upgraded, both concerning features, like state-of-the-art boundary layer control, and capacity, like a wind speed increase to 70 m/s by a doubling of the available drive power. The exhaust evacuation systems allows for testing with running combustion engines etc.
